Spain between two centuries: Francis Harburger & Bilal Hamdad
ECHO(s)#2

Exhibition organised as part of the Echo(s)#2 Biennial in partnership with the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid.

United by the same desire to bring Hispanic culture to life in France, the Goya Museum in Castres and the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid are joining forces to promote dialogue between former resident artists and the Spanish collections in Castres.

For this second edition of Echo(s), the work of Francis Harburger (1905-1998), a painter from the first class of artists in 1928, and that of Bilal Hamdad (1987), a painter resident in Madrid in 2023-2024, are brought together to express two visions of Spain.

Separated by a century of history but presented together, their paintings bear witness to the influence of the great Spanish masters and the Hispanic culture they discovered during their stay in Madrid.

Curated by Joëlle Arches, director of the Goya Museum, and Claude Bussac, director of artistic studies at the Académie de France in Madrid.
